THE FIGHT AGAINST DEPRESSION
What is Depression?
Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person's thoughts, behaviour, tendencies, feelings, and sense of well-being. It can also be a symptom of some physical diseases and a side effect of some drugs and medical treatments.
Some people are depressed but do not know they are, some are addicted to some certain habits and this sometimes happens because of depression, some can even be addicted to love, and when you are addicted to love you tend to follow anyone that claims he/she loves you and then for the fact that you are addicted to love you will want to prove it by having sex with the person that claims he/she loves you. Some are addicted to drinking not only alcoholic drinks but to even non-alcoholic drinks, you just find yourself always wanting to have it. Some are addicted to smoking, masturbation and different habits that are not productive. But mind it, not all addictions are product of depression, and not all depression leads to addiction.
A depressed mind can never be productive, and you being depressed means you are depriving yourself of so many wonderful outcomes of greatest. Depression does not show up in a day, it starts gradually before it’s been noticed. This is the reason why you must be mindful of what you do, places you go, who you talk to and what you think about.
Some tips to know if you are depressed
Depression normally influence your contemplation, your feelings, your practices and your general physical well being. Here are some manifestations that point to the nearness of depression:
Feelings: Sadness, Hopeless, Guilt, Moody, Angry, Loss of interest in friends, family and favorite activities.
Thoughts: Lack of concentration, Difficulty in decision making, Unable to remember things properly, Thoughts of harming yourself, Delusions and/or hallucinations.
Behaviors: Withdrawing from people, Substance abuse, Missing work, school or other commitments, attempts to harm oneself
Physical problems: Tiredness or lack of energy, Unexplained aches and pains, Changes in appetite, Weight loss, Weight gain, difficulty in sleeping or sleeping too much, Sexual problems, excessive drinking.
It's very common to experience depression and anxiety together. Some symptoms of depression can also be symptoms of anxiety, for example:
• feeling restless
• being agitated
• struggling to sleep and eat
It is very possible to experience one or more of these symptoms, the fact that you experience the above symptoms doesn’t mean you are depressed most times. Do you know that depression also is a form of illness? From research the following are causes of depression.
- It can be genetic
- Brain Chemistry Imbalance
- Female Sex Hormones
- Circadian Rhythm Disturbance
- Poor Nutrition
- Physical Health Problem
- Drugs
- Stressful Life Events
- Grief and Loss
Depression can be a part of several mental health problems:
• Bipolar disorder
• Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and other personality disorders
• Schizoaffective disorder
If you notice any of the clinical causes of depression kindly visit a medical center for advice.
When you worry too much you are likely to end up being depressed. Too much worries do not equal creative thinking, anything you worry about does not change the state of that matter. Too much worries lead to depression and depression leads to distress.
